In November 2013 Directors UK hosted a session examining the rise of the showrunner, and asks whether it's a role directors could take up in future.

Chaired by Directors UK board member Philippa Collie-Cousins, we were thrilled to bring Kristoffer Nyholm, showrunner and director of The Killing, to the UK especially for this panel, to help shed light on showrunning. Also speaking were James Hawes (The Mill, The Challenger), SJ Clarkson (Hunted, Dexter) and Paul Unwin (Breathless). Together, they explained exactly what showrunning entails, what skills and training you need, how to break into it and who's recruiting.
