Are you an indie filmmaker, or do run your own production company?

This talk will tell you all you need to know about industry tax reliefs, and how they can help you finance your production.

Recent reports show how the creative industry tax reliefs play a crucial role in supporting the UK’s competitiveness as a creative destination, attracting international inward investment in our production industry. In the UK, there are now a total of eight tax reliefs available for the creative industries. The film tax relief was the first to be introduced in 2007, in part, designed by the Government to assist in the building of a sustainable production industry in the UK. Since its introduction, the film tax relief has helped generate significant increases in production expenditure, and owing to its success, HMRC have introduced a number of other creative tax reliefs, including the introduction of tax relief for certain types of TV programming in 2013.

This talk, hosted by representatives from the Media team at CMS Law, will focus specifically on the film and TV tax reliefs available to UK production companies. In particular, the talk will explain in greater detail what film and TV tax reliefs can be claimed by eligible production companies, before looking at the main criteria for claiming the tax relief, including: (i) who can claim the relief; (ii) what films or TV programmes qualify; and (iii) what specific cultural tests must be met. Finally, the talk will set out how to apply for the film and TV tax reliefs as well as a look at the relationship between the tax reliefs and production financing.

This talk is well suited for members working in independent film and/or running or interested in running their own production companies and needing information about production financing in relation to tax reliefs.

Breakfast refreshments will be available on the morning.
